Secrets Every Writer Should Know

As you sit down to write, you wonder if you are missing anything. Do you have what it takes to make it as a writer? There are secrets that can help you on your way to becoming an accomplished writer but know that yes, you have what it takes…no matter what you just have to believe in yourself. This is step 1.

Life Experience

As a writer, it is so important to draw from what you know, your experiences, and the emotions you feel. Truth comes out in your words.

Travelling has given me some of the major life experiences that influence the writer I am today. I draw on my knowledge of culture, art, food, and language to get inspired. All these things give power and meaning to my words. Without living out some of my adventures I would never have the background to write about them. My words are an expression of my experiences and the profound effect they have had on my life.

My stories describe how the locally grown tomatoes taste, how to find a koala on the Great Ocean Road in Australia, and how some of the most talented craftspeople turned their passion into charming businesses.

Whatever it is that makes you excited, do it and write from it; write from what you learned. Your writing will take on a whole new meaning when you focus on passion and emotion.

Knowledge

Do you like to read? Have you recently stopped at a particular point in a book and been like, “huh, I never thought of that before”? Reading can open your mind to knowledge beyond your wildest imagination. You can also get ideas from other writers to figure out new ways of expressing yourself. Examine the variety of words being used and how they flow off the page then write about this same topic with your unique flair.

There are many books out there on a variety of niches so find yours and delve deep. It can be fun to learn about something you may never have considered before. Try it and see where it takes you.

Are you ready? Flip open that fresh new page to see what you uncover.

Strangers

Get to know others. Strangers are the best source of inspiration when it comes to writing. Whether you interview a local business owner or ask that old man down the street about his life story, you will be sure to discover something you never imagined. You might even make a new friend in the process. 

The world is full of untold stories, true-life tales, imaginative poetic verse, and emotional fiction. You are the writer, uncover the narrative that needs your words.

You have a blank page and words so make them count.
