Are you looking for somewhere to go with your date? You’ve explored most of the city and don’t have the luxury of travelling too far during this time. Where do you go?
Banff, Alberta
Living in Calgary, it is so easy to just drive for an hour and a half until you reach the beautiful Rocky Mountain town of Banff. Yes, you need to purchase a park pass but it will be worth it.
Banff is full of exhilarating spots to explore.
Do you and your date like hiking and enjoy a good view? One of the best views you can take is atop Sulphur Mountain, reached by taking the gondola and then hiking to the peak. If one of you has a physical disability, do not worry as the gondola is accessible to all with wheelchair-friendly options and is open year-round. Imagine getting a romantic kiss atop the mountain…
- Bow Falls
Perhaps you would rather capture amazing views from the ground without the need to hike anywhere. Bow Falls offers picture-perfect moments with its cascading water in the summer and icy falls in the winter. You can view this natural spectacle anytime during the year. Really awe your date by taking them to this scenic area just minutes from downtown Banff.
If you or your date are less into the outdoors and more into exploring city spaces and the beautiful indoors then a trip to Edmonton for the annual Fringe Festival might be just what you are looking for.
What is the Edmonton Fringe Festival? A conglomeration of artists from all over the world coming together to celebrate the performing arts. You will laugh, cry, and smile watching several different theatrical performances at various venues within the centre of Edmonton.
Edmonton is only a 3-hour drive from Calgary and visiting in the summer for Fringe is an experience you will remember. The artistic shows will keep you on the edge of your seat, laughing out loud, crying buckets, and thinking about life. When the curtain falls, venture out to taste the delights from the many food vendors or shop from the local artisan booths set up throughout the Old Strathcona community.
Are you and your date into discovering hidden spaces? With many caves and hiking trails hiding out in the Rocky Mountain forests, you will be sure to have an adventure of a lifetime.
Heart Creek Bunker
Located near Canmore, about an hour from Calgary, Heart Creek Bunker is a large bunker that you can wander in after a medium hike up the mountain. You can imagine you are people living in the Cold War era, hiding out in the little alcove sections. Steal a kiss here and there as you keep hidden from the rest of the world.
Make sure you bring a flashlight if you want to see where you are walking in this spooky spot. This is a great place to hold your date’s hand, comforting them if they are a little scared.
Each of these dates is full of adventure and romance. You will be sure to find something special in all of these fun places only a short distance from Calgary. So, what are you waiting for? It’s date night!
