This blog continues from the previous one but is this time focused on food and drink. These challenging times are tough for small businesses. Now is the time to help out by picking up and taking out food and drinks from your favourite dining spots. Here are some local restaurants I love and why.
- Winebar Kensington
This is a place I have written about before because every time I visit, I am inspired. It is one of my favourite local wine bars in the city. Why? You can read my previous blog to find out and continue reading this one to get to know even more about this terrific small Calgary business.
What makes Winebar Kensington unique? While serving up small dishes like cheese and charcuterie boards that pair with a delicious selection of wine, you can also delve into large meals like the PEI steamed mussels with a fresh baguette. Items on the menu change regularly to reflect the seasons, ensuring you are eating fresh and flavourful dishes. This care for variety leaks into the carefully chosen drinks offered for the non-wine drinkers as well.
This winebar supports other local businesses too. You can delight in the Premium Lager from Inglewood’s Dandy Brewing Company or have some fun with a locally crafted cocktail in hand.
Part of the appeal of this local space is the intimate nature of its quaint size and slightly hidden location. Head down some stairs to find yourself on the perfect date night or girl’s night out. You are sure to leave with an extra skip in your step, either from all the wine you drank or just the cheer you feel after having a great time; more than likely, both. 😉
2. Cannibale
Who ever thought a barbershop and cocktail bar could work so well together in the same building? Cannibale knew, and so should you! Head to this local Bridgeland gathering spot for artistically created drinks, mouthwatering bites, and a happy time.
Speaking of happy, this is a local wine bar where you can get two happy hours to make your day extra cheery! The first happy hour is from 3 pm – 5 pm every day while the second is every Sunday – Thursday from 10 pm onwards. Double Cheers!
You have found the ultimate spot to spend a cold winter’s day inside munching down on the ooey gooey mac & cheese or spending a fall day nestled up by the patio fireplace sipping on the Jungle Bird, one of my favourite cocktails. Summers here are always relaxing, sitting on one of the cutest patios in the city with its growing vines along the walls. Atmosphere and drinks definitely go hand in hand here.
Standing the test of time as one of my favourite spots, this is another local place I have written about before. Let me know what you love about Cannibale.
3. Bridgette Bar
If you’re looking for a perfect match, you need to head over to Bridgette Bar in Calgary’s design district. Pairing up drinks with share plates is perfect for any date. I have many special Birthday memories here. The warehouse vibes with antiquated brick exterior, spacious atmosphere, and eclectic multi-level space always makes me smile on a night out. There are comfy couches, a funky fireplace, and motorcycles hung up in the air. The exciting atmosphere lends itself wonderfully to the outstanding menu fare.
With cocktails made from fresh fruit and house-made syrups, every sip will only leave you desiring more. Open all day, you can bite into this chef-driven food whenever you have a craving for something salty or sweet. Why not stop by during mid-day from 2 pm – 5 pm when there is a smaller snack menu available with happy hour deals that are to die for!
Some of my favourite bites here are the Grilled Octopus Salad and the Five Cheese pizza, yum yum. Are you ready to delve into a powerful flavour trans?
These spaces stand out to me in this city, and if you go to them, you’ll surely know why. Support local and buy a gift card for a night out or take home a picnic from one of your chosen local restaurants. Make your COVID-19 nights filled with food love, and cocktails to go with it. 😉
